Pebble layoffs

Pebble, the buzzy startup credited for being one of the first companies to launch a modern smartwatch, is laying off 40 employees this week, CEO Eric Migicovsky told Tech Insider in an interview. That’s about 25% of its total staff.

SpoonRocket shuts down amongst on-demand apocalypse

SpoonRocket informed its investors it’s shutting down its on-demand pre-made meal delivery service after failing to raise the necessary capital to continue operations. SpoonRocket had reached a positive contribution margin — it was selling meals for more than it cost to cook them.

China’s state VC fund now has $336b to throw at startups

China’s state VC coffers have exploded in size in recent years, holding US$336.4 billion for investing in the nation’s startups at the end of 2015. The data from Beijing-based VC Zero2IPO shows that figure has tripled since 2013. In reality, there’s no one single fund.
