A simple way to break a bad habit

Can we break bad habits by being more curious about them? Psychiatrist Judson Brewer studies the relationship between mindfulness and addiction — from smoking to overeating to all those other things we do even though we know they’re bad for us:

Instead of fighting our brain (cognitive control)

Try to be “Curious”

Understand it in a deeper level

Ask yourself what your bad habit is really like

i.e. What’s Smoking really taste like?

Why my body has such “Urge”?

Notice the urge

Get Curious

Feel the joy of letting go

And Repeat.
