Ed Sheeran on Music Copyright

I feel like claims like this are way too common now and have become a culture where a claim is made with the idea that a settlement will be cheaper than taking it to court, even if there is no basis for the claim… It’s really damaging to the songwriting industry. There’s only so many notes and very few chords used in pop music. Coincidence is bound to happen if 60,000 songs are being released every day on Spotify. That’s 22 million songs a year. And there’s only 12 notes that are available

Leo Babauta on Create when you are overwhelming

Create the space. You can create it right now, or block off some time for later. What do you need to do to create the space? Set things aside, clear off your desk, close apps, play some music?

Now that you’ve created the space, see if you can calm down your nervous system some more. Breathe. Sit in stillness for a minute.

Now take a single step: one brush stroke, one sentence, one note on the instrument. Notice that you can take that one small step in the midst of chaos — that means you can take another. And possibly another!

Fred Wilson on Backup Codes

Even with all of this goodness, I still keep physical copies of my backup codes in a safe. I am also considering setting up a second Yubikey for the two factor codes I use the most just in case I lose my main one.

When it comes to two factor codes, I think you have to have a plan B and a plan C.

They came back to us, and they said . . . we believe every asset other than bitcoin is a security,” Armstrong said. “And, we said, well how are you coming to that conclusion, because that’s not our interpretation of the law. Kin Ko and DRM

Leo Babauta on “I choose my life”

“We often do things because we feel we should, or have to. Out of a sense of obligation, or not having any choice. What a life! It’s a life of victimhood and burden. Most people don’t even notice when they feel this way, because it’s so ingrained. When you shift to a mindset of choosing your life … it’s powerful. You feel empowered and enlivened.”

Anthony Hopkins on Regrets

Don’t have time to regret. We move on.
Cause we are acceptable for what we are.
Not what we think we should be.
I am accepted in myself by what I am.
Not as I think I should be.
Because that’s a lie.
I done some bad things some good things
So you know you just forgive yourself and move on.

Fred Wilson on AI Art

There has been a lot of discussion about how AIs can make art and possibly replace artists, but I think the opposite is more likely to happen. Artists have been using AI to make art for a while now and the pace has picked up a lot in recent years. I am very bullish on the creativity that AI will help artists bring to the world. It is a tool, like a paintbrush or a camera, or a kiln.
