Paxos, issuer of PayPal’s stablecoin, is once again seeking a U.S. national trust bank charter, joining Circle and Ripple in pursuing deeper integration with traditional finance. If granted by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the license would allow Paxos to hold assets for customers and speed up payment settlements, though it cannot take deposits or issue loans. The firm’s previous 2020 application received conditional approval in 2021 but eventually expired.
