Cloudflare has accused Perplexity AI of using stealthy, undeclared crawlers to bypass websites’ no-crawl directives. Despite being blocked via robots.txt and firewalls, Perplexity allegedly impersonated legitimate browsers and rotated IPs to scrape content from restricted domains. Cloudflare’s tests suggest this behaviour undermines web transparency and violates norms that responsible AI bots should follow.
