A shocking yet little-known crypto heist has come to light: Blockchain intel firm Arkham uncovered a 2020 attack on Chinese mining pool LuBian, stealing 127,426 BTC — now worth $14.5 billion. Believed to be the largest crypto theft by value, the exploit may have stemmed from weak key-generation algorithms. Despite LuBian’s attempts to contact the hacker via blockchain messages, the stolen coins remain untouched since July 2024.
